easiCOP is a global community of practice comprising schools and other organisations dedicated to supporting education and social inclusion for families and communities, adults and children, and individual self-esteem and aspirations.

The focus is Communication & Collaboration, using a mix of the easiCOP on-line support tool (this site J) together with the easiCOP physical face-to-face Hothouse engagement process.

Here are some of the latest projects which can also be seen in an extensive PROJECT WIKI:

Learning from the World – developing and disseminating global content

We have the honour to support Katha, India in their wonderful new project working with many schools, and in the UK with Stoke High School and St Joseph’s College.

These partners provide us with our best example so far of content re-use when the easiCOP publication of the pioneering work on the zero cost energy bike at the January 31st 2008 Stoke/St Jos Suffolk Regional Hothouse  led to the Amazing Katha India Videos on using zero energy bikes in communities for laptops, lighting in the home and learning to read!

Now see what they are going to do next!  Learning from the World!

Mujuni & Jovias World Travellers!Rhythm N Beans - global online and physical face-to-face based content

The work by East Bergholt, Buhumba and Sustainable Communities Network’s David Renton has provided much inspiration to easiCOP partners. David and Jackson brought Jovias and Mujuni (picture opposite) over from Uganda to East Bergholt and Mujuni won our Suffolk Hothouse £100 prize video competition speaking in Rukigan! Mujuni used the £100 to...'build school buildings?!? in beansTALK!

David is now taking things to the next level with Rhythm ‘N Beans providing educational content featuring a Buhumba teacher visiting Suffolk schools! He is also planning to bring onboard more than 50 Uganda schools! See the harsh challenge facing Koch Goma who nevertheless feature in our picture at the top of the page!

Mujuni also appears on the...Buhumba & East Bergholt video on UK TV!...and is fed by the...Beans Means Brains site developed by David which provides school meals for Mujuni and friends! See what Uganda village children think of the Global Future School and their End-of-year dance!  with teacher Irene who will be coming to Suffolk to teach us all how to dance!

Heres the advance publicity!

How strong is your school floor?Bakiga Dancer!

An unusual question?  Maybe, but an essential one before each of the Bakiga music and dance workshops which Ugandan teacher Irene Ekiryo will be running in Suffolk as part of African History month.  Irene is being brought to Suffolk by charity Sustainable Communities Network (SCN) and Gorseland Primary School. Irene will be helping children here to learn about life in Uganda and to experience the traditional music and dances of her tribe – the Bakiga people from the south west part of the country.  She’ll also be making a huge difference to the 600 children at her own school as all the proceeds from the workshops will be used to support the school lunch programme run by SCN at the school – the only one of its kind in that part of the country. The workshops will be loads of fun – lots of loud drumming and some VERY energetic dancing.  Bakiga dancing involves a lot of leaping in the air –hence the need for a string floor.  SCN Chairman, David Renton had first hand experience of spending New Year’s day repairing the wooden floor which had sunk about 8 cm after a lot of Bakiga dancing at Lake Bunyonyi

There will be a “come and try” workshop open to all at the Co-op Education Centre in Fore Street, Ipswich on Saturday 18th October from 1.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m.www.scn-uk.org/rhythm.html

Brownhills Community Association – local content development, management and dissemination

The easiCOP VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) is deployed with Brownhills Community Technology College and their feeder schools  Watling ST,  and Radleys.

It will now be used by their Community Association to develop, manage and disseminate both local content (see their Wide range of community and educational activities !) and also the wide range of content available from the BT Betterworld programme including the acclaimed BT Internet Rangers site which helps young people to teach Internet to older people.

See their Brownhills Community Association Project Outline!

http://www.icookbook.netiCook! - wonderful local and global humanities related content!

This wonderful site compares life in Gorseland Suffolk with Kudawella Sri Lanka. See the children videoconferencing with different countries and describing their work! This work has featured on UK TV! Take a look at how Gorseland and Kudawella do their shopping at their markets! This site also contains the Alfie & Family iCOOK Stirfry Video! as well as many fascinating recipes!
