easiCOP is a global community of practice comprising schools and other organisations dedicated to supporting education and social inclusion for families and communities, and individual self-esteem and aspirations. The focus is Communication & Collaboration, using the easiCOP on-line support tool (this site J) together with the easiCOP physical face-to-face Hothouse engagement process. Learning from the World – developing and disseminating global content We have the honour to support Katha, India in their wonderful new project working with many schools, and in the UK with Stoke High School and St Joseph’s College. These partners provide us with our best example so far of content re-use when the easiCOP publication of the pioneering work on the zero cost energy bike at the January 31st 2008 Stoke/St Jos Suffolk Regional Hothouse led to the Amazing Katha India Videos on using zero energy bikes in communities for laptops, lighting in the home and learning to read! Rhythm N Beans - global online and physical face-to-face based content
The work by East Bergholt, Buhumba and Sustainable Communities Network’s David Renton has provided much inspiration to easiCOP partners. David and Jackson brought Jovias and Mujuni (picture opposite) over from Uganda to East Bergholt and Mujuni won our Suffolk Hothouse £100 prize video competition speaking in Rukigan! Mujuni used the £100 to...'build school buildings?!? in beansTALK! David is now taking things to the next level with Rhythm ‘N Beans providing educational content featuring a Buhumba teacher visiting Suffolk schools! He is also planning to bring onboard more than 50 Uganda schools! See the harsh challenge facing Koch Goma who nevertheless feature in our picture at the top of the page! Mujuni also appears on the...Buhumba & East Bergholt video on UK TV!...and is fed by the...Beans Means Brains site developed by David which provides school meals for Mujuni and friends! Brownhills Community Association – local content development, management and dissemination The easiCOP VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) is deployed with Brownhills Community Technology College and their feeder schools Watling ST, and Radleys. It will now be used by their local Brownhills Community Association to develop, manage and disseminate both local content and also the wide range of content available from the BT Betterworld programme including the acclaimed BT Internet Rangers site which helps young people to teach Internet to older people. This wonderful site compares life in Gorseland Suffolk with Kudawella Sri Lanka. See the children videoconferencing with different countries and describing their work! See the Kudawella schoolband performing with all their new instruments and costumes paid for by the Gorseland win at our first Global Hothouse! easiCOP Toolkit - for collaboration & communication and content development, management & dissemination Our toolkit now consists of: · easiCOP on-line tool including resources, interactive project area and videoconferencing · easiAPP VLE inc Learning Management System, multilayer communication tools (email, blog, forum, chat), student and staff timetables, 3rd party applications (Thin Client). dynamic interface based on user logon · Visual Interfaces & Front End portal - a cut down version of easiAPP to provide extra functionality and an attractive and usable interface to an existing VLE · DATASync - cross database agent module allowing integration between different database driven applications such as a SIMS interface for an Assessment for Learning application See the Brownhills User Evaluation April 2008 in which teachers, developers and children evaluate the easiCOP VLE, laptop, thin client and iTouch devices, and Thin Client architecture (complete with jargon buster!). The toolkit also contains a wide variety of BT Betterworld Learning Content, Software, Communication kitemark and White Papers. Educational Endorsements easiCOP has a number of educational endorsements attesting to its curricular value and more. It was featured at the 2008 UK Specialist Schools Academy Trust Technology National Conference February 28th Manchester Hothouse, keynote presentation and workshop, at the iPhone Conference May 2008 and will the Design And Technology Association Annual Conference July 2008. On March 10th 2008 to Ed Balls Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families at Stoke High School, Ipswich, who, reports teacher Jon Miller, said: “It is using its technology specialities to good effect. Stoke is totally involved with its community and is a fine example to schools throughout England……..” Most recently, we have been invited to write contributions to SSAT, DATA and STEM publications.
